The Conclusion

I've change few design for the game because of the limitation of Stencyl.
At first I wanted to create three buttons on the game menu page (1st Scene),
for story, how to play and game page.
But I found out that I can't enter the another 2 page, it keeps enter the game page only.
There's no problem with the event coding I put,
I can't fix this problem so I have to figure out another way.
Then I came out this:
I combine the game page with the guide page, so I can avoid the problem.
By the way, in the previous consultation with my lecturer,
he suggested to make a countdown timer before the game starts,
but unfortunately there is no tutorial for this,
and I can't figure out the way to do it,
so I create a invisible button on top of the game,
to let the player tap or click on the screen to start the game,
so they would not lose the game before they even get ready.

These are the obstacles that I redesigned, I use my dearest lecturers' faces for it.
It actually looks cute, the main reason of this is because my previous design is so boring...
I want this game to be special, so I decided to use their faces,
will remind me of the rest of assignments....
Thanks to one of my classmate, Kenny for helping me to did this recording for my game, I played with the pitch and reduce the background sound. The recordings is actually recorded by my iPhone, so there are some background noise... Luckily I can fixed it, can't hear any background sound when it played with my game background music.
Insert the music part is the second worst nightmare (Timer is the worst nightmare) for me, because it happened 2 background music when change scene. I insert the stop all music event on the top and loop music on the bottom but can't work... It really stop all the sound... But it fixed when I inserted the fade in music event.
Here is the game will be look like:

Stencyl is a new software that I never touch before this semester, people used to said that Stencyl is very easy to use because it doesn't need any coding.
This is actually not true, I did used coding for my scene behaviour,
it is for the transition when the player tap on the buttons.
Looking back of my posts, I didn't really tot of learning stencyl from the beginning.
Because no one will help me when I have problems using stencyl,
my classmates are all using metaio creator, adobe edge and muse,
when they have problem the lecturer can help them,
but for me... When I have problem, the only way of solving is search internet,
find tutorial myself or ask question in the stencyl developer forum.
It's really all by my own, this is the price I need to pay for chosen to be so unique.

But I do learned a lot in this semester, I learned the important of time management, I learned to be more independent and think out of the box.
Because when internet can't help me to fix those errors,
then I force myself to stop thinking of that issue and find a new way that similar with I want.

I think my strength is...
1. Good in research
2. Creative Idea

I said I'm good in research because I did something extreme when I wanna learn those game events in Stencyl. Those tutorials video teach very less event. What I did was I go download all the sample game in the Stencyl website and open it just to study their game event.

My threats while producing this game is just like I mentioned it earlier, there is lack of tutorial videos using stencyl, most of the game event function is unclear, no one explain it to me, even the behaviour also very less. I need to try it on my own just to understand it...

Time management I think is my weakness, if I could have done it earlier, I won't be awake until now...

Finish Design

Finally I have finish all the design I gonna use in my game,
everything are going to be pixel art style, to make my game looks more retro.

My Retro Design

But sadly I may not have time to complete the intro story, I have done the sketches and drawings but I haven't figure out how to do the animation in Stencyl, there is no tutorial for it...

My Sketches
I also found one of our classmate to do the cupid sound effect, due to the studio is fully booked, we can only record the sound using our own recorder. The background sound of the recording is kinda annoying, hopefully adobe audition can fix it.

Change my design

I have change my character design, the previous one is kinda like japanese chibi style,
but now I'm using pixel style.

Using pixel style of character shows more retro style for my game design, it actually bring back my childhood memories.

Okay, here is the design will be look like, the previous one and the current one.

The previous design
The current design

This is the previous design, I did it in Illustrator.

This is the current design, I did it in Photoshop.

Game Design

Since my technical part for my game is almost done,
everything seems goes well in the game,
except I still haven't figure out the countdown timer in Stencyl...
There is no tutorial for that... I think I need to find it out myself later..
Now I'm doing the design for my game,
I'm still sketching for my storyboard.
Oh ya, the intro animation before the game is unable for Stencyl,
guess I need to do my intro like a comic style with a next button,
so the player just needs to press the next button to go through the story before start playing the game.
I've only done my design for my game title and background so far,
will update again when I done my character and obstacles design.

Game Title

The game title design has changed, because Mr Muzamir said that the title need to be very eyes catching, so I came out this design. I get the inspiration from several games such as plant vs zombie, pokemon, angry bird, etc.

Game Background

The game background design is just a mock up, I may used it in the game or maybe not. It depends on my character style, if I think this is not suit my character, I will change another background.

Angel design

Psyche design

Venus design

Psyche design

Venus design

These are the sketches I drew for the game, the design haven't been confirm yet, but the background of the game I wanna stick to this kind of style. I'm planning that there will be two actors in the game scene, Psyche will be running in front of Cupid on the ground and Cupid is chasing her by flapping his wings and chasing her in the sky. The player will be playing as Cupid, tap or click on the screen to flap his wings to avoid crash into the houses, buildings, clouds and mountains.

Storyboard

Title: Stupid Cupid

Main Character:

Cupid is a god of desire and erotic love, he carries two kind of arrows, one is with a sharp golden point, another one is with a blunt tip of lead. A person wounded by the golden arrow is filled with uncontrollable desire, but the one struck by the lead feels aversion and desires only to flee.

Storyline:

There was once a King and Queen have three daughters, one of them is very beautiful, her name was Psyche. Everyone come from all around just to check out how beautiful she is, the men started to say Psyche is more beautiful than Venus, the goddess of love and beauty. Venus started to hate Psyche and order her son, Cupid to punish her by making her to fall in love with the ugliest beast in the world. But when Cupid sneaks into Psyche's bedroom to do his mother's bidding, he saw the beauty of Psyche, he accidentally drop his arrow and pricks himself with his own arrow. Cupid falls in love with Psyche and started chasing her wherever she goes.

This storyline was inspired by "Tales of Cupid and Psyche".

Self Thoughts

It has been awhile since my last post in this blog,
I was confusing on what to do for this subject.
I had been thinking a lot....
At first, I was thinking create a parallex website,
but I done a lot of websites since my diploma...
Every assignment back then,
I was like doing the same old stuffs,
website, website, website..
The truth is this is not the first time I touched parallex,
I have done the same thing in my diploma year in SEGi,
but I did it using Dreamweaver, not Edge or Muse.
I want to try something different,
I touched 3D animation and website,
but I ever did a 2D animation before.
I wanna try to create one,
I wanna write a short 2D animation and make it become a parallex storytelling.
But first, I need to get more practise on my drawing skill.

Project Idea

After doing all the researches from the internet,
I decided to do interactive storytelling by using Adobe Edge or Muse etc.
I haven't decide how is the platform should be looks like,
it's can be parallax scrolling, a simple website or mobile app.
I remember there is a senior called Nicole,
what she did was an interactive storybook app.

Here is some references that I found:
Parallax Scrolling
WWF

The content story that I thought of thinking is the hottest Korean drama "Man From Another Star", of course it will be a very short story, not the entire 21 episodes. But I will be doing it in 2D and Japanese Anime Chibi style, like the images below. Or I will go for those Disney Fairytale like snow white and the seven shorty or Cinderella, I haven't decide the story yet until I sketch out all the drawings to know which one lesser work, then I go for the one.

Here is the "Man from Another Star" plot:

Do Min-joon is an alien that landed on Earth in the year 1609 during the Joseon Dynasty. As his spaceship is broken, he is stranded on the planet for the next four centuries. He possesses a near-perfect appearance, enhanced physical abilities involving his vision, hearing and speed, and a cynical, jaded view regarding human beings. He meets a young girl whom he saves from death, but later on she gives her life saving him.
As time goes by, Min-joon is forced to take on a new identity every ten years, as his human appearance never ages.
In the present he works as a college professor and finds out that due to a comet coming in three months, he will be able to return to his home planet. In the meantime he accidentally meets famous actress Cheon Song-yi, the biggest Hallyustar in Korea, when she moves in next door to his luxurious apartment and also turns out to be attending his classes at college. Song-yi is an obnoxious, entitled attention seeker, someone who became a top star in her teens and never learned how to live a normal life. Min-joon finds out that Song-yi looks like the young girl he fell in love with in the Joseon era. He tries to keep himself away from her, as he needs to leave the planet.
However, Song-yi gets entangled in the dangerous game of Lee Jae-kyung, the elder brother of Hwi-kyung, who has been her friend since middle school and is in love with her. As Jae-kyung tries to silence Song-yi, Min-joon finds himself saving her multiple times and eventually the neighbours fall for each other. But Jae-kyung turns out to be much more dangerous than Min-joon suspected and he mysteriously also starts to lose control over his superpowers, making his only friend and confidant, Lawyer Jang worried about his life and return to space.
